HEATHER APPEL, SOPRANO
Heather Appel, Soprano, is an alumna of The University of Oklahoma in Norman with a Master's in Voice Performance, and a Bachelor's of Music Education in Voice. She has performed with the University of Oklahoma Opera Department in several mainstage and scenes productions, as well as a PBS production of Dido and Aeneas in 2007. She served as Stage Manager for the student-directed Doctor Miracle and The Dinner Engagement in Spring 2006, as Assistant Stage Manager for Lakme in Fall 2008 at OU, and as assistant to the costume designer in Le Nozze di Figaro in 2009.
Heather has performed with Cimarron Opera Company in Norman, OK in such productions as The Merry Widow (Lolo), and Hansel and Gretel (Rosina Daintymouth), and directed H.M.S. Pinafore for the Cimarron Opera Company's summer children's opera camp in 2010.
In December of 2007, Heather was a cast member of NBC’s Clash of the Choirs where she sang with country superstar Blake Shelton, and shared the stage with Kelly Rowland, Michael Bolton, Nick Lachey and Patti Labelle. She again appeared on ESPN with Blake Shelton in a music video promoting Nascar’s Daytona 300 in February 2008.
Heather made her professional classical debut in Vienna in June 2009 with the Prague Orchestra performing the soprano solos from Haydn's The Creation, under the direction of Dr. Eph Ehly.
She was the lead singer of the cover band, Squadlive, from 2010-2014. The band traveled all over the region playing for festivals, weddings, corporate events, and concerts. The repertoire consisted of top 40 tunes from the 1970's to today's current hits.
Heather has studied voice with Sean Daniel, Dr. Donna Cox, Bradley Williams, Julie Davies, and Marilyn Horne, and has studied piano with several doctoral piano students and professors at OU.
She is the former Interim Director of Music of First Presbyterian Church, Norman and just recently retired from 13 years of teaching in OKC metro school districts as a junior high choral director as well as running a successful voice and piano studio out of her home studio. She currently sings with Scissortail Productions in Oklahoma, with the Fort Worth Opera Chorus in Fort Worth, TX and around the DFW area. She is also a Product Manager at Caxy Interactive in Chicago, working remotely from her home in Haslet, TX.
